My name is Roger Kirk. I make ceramics in my studio in Washington, D.C. I grew up in D.C. and Maryland, went to art school at UCLA, then moved back to the DMV. Soon after graduating, I lucked into an apprenticeship with the sculptor Robert Cole, where I learned to sculpt stainless steel and bronze. Robert also taught me a lot about being an independent artist, and how to make a life being creative.

After finishing my apprenticeship with Robert Cole, I started teaching art at Montgomery County Public Schools. Soon I reconnected with ceramics (which I hadn’t done since college), taking classes at Sligo Creek in MD with Angela Schreiber who was a huge influence in my growth as a ceramicist/potter.

A few years and many failed and successful pots later, my Dad and Stepmom offered to give me a space in their basement where I set up my studio. I am very grateful to have this space to my own to experiment and make lots of pots.

I hope the functionality, clean design, and handmade feel of my pots help make people’s homes a happier place to live.
